The Children’s Library held a Pizza Party which was enjoyed by both adults and children.

In March, several adults and children attended The Knox Trail ceremony on Route 71 at the New York State/Massachusetts state line where a new Knox Trail monument was unveiled commemorating the moving of 59 captured artillery pieces from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston Heights where they hoped to defend Boston against the British.

The Children’s Library sponsored two programs this year.  They were funded by grants from the Mass. Cultural Council through the Alford-Egremont Cultural Council.

In May, Mary Jo Maichack, Minstrel Storyteller and Musician presented her program “Tattle Tunes”.

In June, John Root, Musician-Educator presented his program “Popular Music of the Gas Light Era”.

The Library continues to offer free passes to the Norman Rockwell Museum which are available until May 2009. We also have passes to the Clark Museum~ in Williamstown and the’Mount Estate and Gardens in Lenox. Both of these passes expire in October 2008. The passes can be borrowed as you would borrow a book and returned to the Library after your visit to the Museum.

The Library will again offer winter programs of knitting, crocheting and quilting starting late October or early November.  Adults and children are welcome to stop in and join us.

Due to the high cost of gasoline and the dwindling attendance, Alford has lost the services of the Bookmobile.
