Recycling Liaison Needed

The Town Of Alford is looking for a volunteer to handle recycling compliance information and related communications. This person will be the liaison for our recycling facility, to keep our town officials updated on state recycling regulations and our compliance, and would have to attend occasional meetings at CET locations, etc. If you are interested in taking on this responsibility, please contact Rich Hird on our Conservation Commission.
Waste oil, paint and used motor oil collection

On Saturday, August 13th, the South Berkshire Household Hazardous Waste Collaborative will hold a paint and oil collections for the 16 participating towns. The Center for EcoTechnology (CET) will coordinate these collections. The towns in the South Berkshire Household Hazardous Waste Collaborative sponsor this program. The participating towns are Alford, Becket, Egremont, Great Barrington, Lee, Lenox, Monterey, Mount Washington, New Marlborough, Otis, Richmond, Sandisfield, Sheffield, Stockbridge, Tyringham and West Stockbridge.
Bring your waste oil paint and used motor oil to the Great Barrington Recycling Center at 601 Stockbridge Road (Across from Monument Mountain High School) on Saturday, August 13th, 9 AM – 11:30 AM. Acceptable materials are oil-based paint, stains, paint thinners, spray paint and turpentine, as well as waste motor oil. Latex paint will not be accepted at this event. Empty cans can be recycled with scrap metal. Dried-up cans of latex paint can be disposed with the regular trash. Empty cans of oil-based paint, stains and solvents can be disposed with the regular trash as well. Usable paint can be given away through Freecycle or some non-profits.

Dump Stickers Are Due

The dump stickers are due on June 30th 2011. A late fee of $10.00 will be charged if you do not purchase your dump sticker by August 31st 2011. Contact the town offices for more information.
