July 8, 2023 French Park

On Saturday,  July 8th - from 10:00am - to 2:30pm

French Park Pavilion, North Egremont

The Massachusetts Cultural Council will sponsor                a multi-generational workshop in sacred geometry.

One of the seven liberal arts of the ancient Greeks, Geometry, the language of nature and science has in-formed all great accomplishments of civilization, as well as the details of our daily lives from cheese wheels to the Webb telescope.  Above, an illustration from Quanta magazine by D. Yellin shows the impact of the Webb telescope on history. The 18 gold hexagons float through space while humanity searches the Cosmos.

The golden hexagon of the hives of bees. The solar barque of the Egyptian sun god Ra.

Using compass and ruler, children and adults alike will find exploring the relationships we draw between a circle and a line holds a surprise at every level.

Geometry requires a synthesis of knowledge, technical skill and enthusiasm to develop an awareness of the multiple dimensions of mathematics.  It is hoped this brief introduction will foster a comfortable engagement with Geometry:

The art of mathematics - mathematics as art.

As lunch will be served, registration is requested.                             Please call Susan Bachelder at 413 528 6505
