Cultural Council
Overview
The Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) is a state agency that promotes excellence, access, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and contribute to the economic vitality of our communities. The Council pursues this mission through a combination of grant programs, partnerships, and services for nonprofit cultural organizations, schools, communities, and artists. MCC receives an annual appropriation from the state Legislature and funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, and others.
Since Alford is such a small town, we have joined with Egremont to create the Alford-Egremont Cultural Council. Our council receives funds yearly from the state which it uses to assist local lectures, school trips, art workshops, children’s science and music groups, theater groups, concerts and many more activities and events. The council members meet each fall to read all the applications and appropriate funds for the following year. We invite Alford residents who are interested in receiving grants to submit applications.
